I use W7 and explorer.
I turned it all off but Java seems to not care.

OK I guess it was a success. What happpened was I went into check for updates.
Then the program checked downloaded and installed in a minute and a half.
I didnt do anything but ask it to check for updates.  Why did it do the download and install ?

Well Folks I just updated my windows. It was 321.4 MB for 56 updates.
The updates threw my computer into the offline mode and went to work for about 35 minutes.
I did notice some different graphics as I use the windows logo for my screen.
Gmail on the other hand still says I am using an outdated version and reccomends Google Chrome. They say it is fast.
That seems a bit odd to me.

Your Java version is also outdated.  The latest version of Java is Version 6 Update 30.  You are running Version 6 Update 14.  It is recommended you open Java through your Control Panel...select the Update tab and then click the Update Now button.

Most programs on your computer will require an update along the way.  It would be wise to read and understand how to use these programs, as well as how to configure their update features.

I use the Chrome browser, as well as Opera.  Not a big fan of Firefox...since it's become a real resource hog and has too many bugs.  I also use Internet Explorer and Safari...since I want to know how my site appears to those who may use these browsers.

I highly recommend Chrome.  You may want to read this:  Chrome is the most secure browser - new study

I liked Opera, too, but since I've been using Google Chrome I wasn't able to get back to Opera :P
