Windows 7 SP1
« on: February 24, 2011, 08:44:30 AM »
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is an important update that includes previously released security, performance, and stability updates for Windows 7. SP1 also includes new improvements to features and services in Windows 7, such as improved reliability when connecting to HDMI audio devices, printing using the XPS Viewer, and restoring previous folders in Windows Explorer after restarting.

More from the Microsoft team we have all come to love or hate (depending on your disposition to Microsoft products)...
No doubt this service pack contains many fixes (which surely should have been implemented before the official release?)...
Excuse my apparent sarcasm here but I feel that a company/corporation with the assets, finance and available technology aught to be able to design an OS that works straight out of the box first time....
Part of the service pack for is for Win 7 X86 ('windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe') and is a 523.21 MB download (The original complete XP OS was 582 MB)...These service packs are getting bigger by the minute...
Maybe I should switch to Linux..lol...

I am glad they came out with it and it does fix some issues as reported but you are right about it should work out of the box. Unfortunately I can not see that happening, ever, lol. As long as they keep up with the exploits I can make the rest of it work. :)

Yes those are they...
According to your screenshot you have 107 updates/fixes installed, the top 2 were installed on the 23rd of this month....
On an aside note, it would be interesting to know just how many MB's or GB's of space all those updates occupy....
 :cool
Here's a screenshot of my Win7 Updates....

How long is a piece of string?...
Things that slow down a computer are many and varied and there are forums dedicated to this subject as it is so vast.
A lot depends on whether the User has installed (intentionally or not) applications, which insist on placing their icons in the sys tray, lurking there using valuable resources/memory, if the User didn't tell the installed apps NOT to start with Windows and only starts them when needed.
Usually, Files and Pictures etc. only take up space on the hdd and if there are a LOT of them, that may slow down Windows search ability but not the computer in general...
If your hdd is fragmented, this can slow the comuter down some as when an application is called to execute, Windows has to look for and gather all the fragmented parts of the app before running it....
These are only a couple of things to show you and I guess if you handed your computer over to any of the guys here, they would be able to diagnose a lot more..It's a pity we are not psychic eh? lol....
As I said at the start, How long is a piece of string?...

It depends how you configured it. Did you configure to download and install recommended updates or did you choose to decide yourself. :)

Heh, I have yet to install this thing on my Win 7 install on my iMac. It wasn't available AFAIK since I haven't activated my copy. Or I must have installed it within the latest stream of updates today ::)
Maybe you should marry that thing since you love it so much. Do you want to marry it? WELL I WON'T LET YOU! How does that feel?
That thing is probably some sort of raw sewage container. Go ahead and rub your face all over it.
