ClickPotato
« on: January 07, 2011, 11:05:44 AM »
Argh this is.....stupid.

We have some crappy adware thing on our laptop called ClickPotato...I tried removing it in the Control Panel (yeah it was under Software...weird for a virus?) and I tried removing via MSE.

Now, I did a full scan today AGAIN, and it found ClickPotato AGAIN.

Anybody knows how to remove the damn thing?
Maybe you should marry that thing since you love it so much. Do you want to marry it? WELL I WON'T LET YOU! How does that feel?
That thing is probably some sort of raw sewage container. Go ahead and rub your face all over it.

Hi alahuin,
I'll look into it later, I don't feel like messing with my system at the moment.
In the meanwhile, while I was waiting, I've also been searching.

Does this site look reliable? Not that I'm following that guide, but still ;)

Hmm..not according to the user comments lower down the page....
Also, I personally will not download any spy-removal tools or progs unless they are recommended by a friend....but then that's just me....
 :)

I only download officially known products, such as AVG, MSE, MacAfee (not that I want it), etc.

Actually I won't use that site to remove malware and stuff. I will only use it to find info.

Yes, good plan....
I would try the registry edits (after having backed up the registry first of course)...

I ain't gonna try messing with the registery unless it is really needed, though, because you never know what can happen.
Maybe I'll ask a good friend of mine to perform the edits as I am good at breaking stuff (yeah I even managed to make a hack for my own products by using an exploit LOL)

I owe you a big time. It seems I had lots of malware and stuff on this system, no wonder it is this slow...

And I wonder why it detects my own programs as Trojan.Agent.Gen, it are just programs compiled with Visual Studio...

Actually she is messing with her own computer...

I only use it when I'm downstairs.

How computer literate is she? You may need to school her on what malware does to the system and how it threatens her personal info.  ;)

Is saying "she's a noob at this kind of stuff" kind?

I need to school her on almost everything...EVEN DOWNLOADING A STUPID GAME!!!
The only thing she seems to get is PLAYING the game...

When something is wrong with this thing she tells ME to fix it because "I'm always doing stuff on it".

Yep that was kind Yoshi2889.  ;D I was just like her about 2 or 3 years ago. I bothered everyone I even suspected knew something about computers!  :D

Then I met Smoky, who introduced me to HarshReality, and then I found bigguy and the rest of the crew here. Whew, thankfully they took pity on a poor old woman and were very kind and patient with me. I really learned a lot from just reading the posts on all of their sites. Plus I ask questions and they are always quick to answer in language I can understand.   ;)

So you find the info she needs to read on how to keep herself and her machine safe on line and what can happen to the machine from spyware and such. She'll be a pro in no time.  O0

Me? I still don't really know diddly, but I manage to stay away from serious viruses and can usually fix the problems (short of a fried mother board)  my honeybear gets into.

lol, I need to learn her that too...maybe she'll learn when we have to buy another laptop (previous one was broken; it beeped on startup with a black screen).

I once had a fried motherboard on my old desktop...it refused to turn on lol I was like "WTF if I tell dad he will get SO angry" so I didn't tell...now I have got a new PC. Virus-free, and I'd like to keep it that way.

@ bigguy: same here. Computer problem @ grandma's house; me gets to look at it. Server/computer problems @ school; me gets to look at it.
They've also learnt I'm good for holding things up high because of my length (1.80 meters)...so that's another thing I'm used for, which is extremely annoying.
