IP Camera access
« on: December 18, 2010, 11:32:23 AM »
Hi guys, bought myself an IP Cam and I'm trying to set it up for remaote access, but not getting very far.

The camera is a Foscam FI8918W and the router is a HUAWEI HG520B.

As is the case with most home users I don't have a static IP so I have signed up for an account with DynDNS and the camera has recognised the account, however at that point I'm stuck.

I know I need to create a link and set up port forwarding, but it's beyond me it seems.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, that's for webcams connected to a PC, will it still apply to standalone IP Cameras on a network?

I should point out, this camera is provided with a user interface.

The instructions with the cam explain about port forwarding, but the interface in the example is nothing like the interface in my router, there is no "port forwarding" section as such, but I think the QoS section is the same, but it's very complicated and not as basic as the Lynksis router exampled, and the instructions are clearly translated from Chinese so are a little, erm, erroneous shall we say.

Thanks for the info, but I think it just comes down to understanding port forwarding, which I don't.

Thanks for all the help, I just think I must be too stupid lol

Followed the guide, but all it does is apply settings to my PC, where as it's the IP Camera I want to be able to access from the net, and that has it's own IP as it's a seperate device on the network, as apposed to accessing a webcam for example attached to my PC.

OK you need to open up a door in your router and point it to the web cam this is called a port forward.
do you know the IP of the web cam and the port it needs?
