Facebook this & Facebook that
« on: November 19, 2010, 10:45:24 PM »
More and more I see headlines like "Facebook founder fodder for animated film" and about the movie...what's it called now. I don't know. Who really cares. Are people actually going to see this movie, well yes as far as I have heard they are. Why. Is facebook not just a gossip mill with a few games thrown in. After all, the only thing other than that that it really does is put you in touch with friends you might not have seen in awhile.

And to be really honest, other sites could do the same thing if people spent more time at them. I admit. I was a facebook user and still hold an account there. I don't go there to much anymore, not like I used to. All these privacy issues scare me a little to tell you the truth, plus just the shear footprint facebook is leaving. I mean it's everywhere now. You can even login here to this site if I installed a small mod for it.

I'm not saying facebook is evil...what I am saying is that we all had a lot better things to do before it came along with its "Farmville" and it's "Mafiawars". There were greener grasses before facebook and I am sure someone soon will think of another trend for us all to follow. Me for one, I am slowly weening myself off of facebook and getting back into the real virtual world...hmm, does that make sense. ???

I couldn't agree more Bigguy...If I want to contact friends, I either send them an e-mail or call them on the phone..I certainly don't want the whole world seeing conversations I have with my friends nor as you said, leave a huge traceable footprint..Big brother is active enough out there already without sending him open information....

I haven't used my account in a while now and really don't plan to. I have friends that get a hold of me there through mail but I am telling them all to go to msn now cause I really don't need to be on their wasting time and leaving all this info on there. I deleted all my crap form my profile but a few things and took down most pics. I do believe it says in the agreement when you sign up that they can use anything you post...I don't want them using my info for thier gains.

I guess Facebook is now integrated with Myspace. I think this is worse then the way it was before. Here's a bit of a write-up on it:

Quote
In what can be seen as final capitulation to its now much larger rival,   MySpace and Facebook announced Thursday afternoon that MySpace would   employ Facebook Connect across its site. The change effectively ends   what had been a years-long battle for dominance between the two   companies.

Good thing: you get to login with one account instead of making another one.

That's why I have openID enabled on my site :)

Anywayz, I never get onto my Facebook account, unless it's for playing Bejeweled Blitz or uploading photo's from my DSi.
Maybe you should marry that thing since you love it so much. Do you want to marry it? WELL I WON'T LET YOU! How does that feel?
That thing is probably some sort of raw sewage container. Go ahead and rub your face all over it.

Wow that's a little scary....I do FB because I like playing the games..If I could get even one of those games on my site, I'd stay at my site and close FB.

I think there is way to much hype about facebook myself. I still have an account but am not on it nearly as much as I used to be and it feels good. :)

I play them on my iPod (with the Bejeweled 2 + Blitz app, 0.79 euro's now!)

I have been facebook since it's start. It used to be rather fun but I don't find it to be any longer. Only thing that bothered me back then was all the darn advertising that got sent to my mail from there. I had to ask friends to not send me all those gifts and other junk. Privacy was also a concern then but has gotten much better since. Now days I have nothing much about myself at all and no photo's. I have asked my friends and family to remove photo's of me as well and any private info regarding myself that I don't want plastered all over the world.
I have only tried to play a game once and I rarely go there anymore at all. Once in a while I like to go and see what my grandkids are up to but that is all I go there for these days.
Much prefer to keep up by phone where I can here a persons voice at the same time.

Facebook has become all about $$$$$$$$, all the games on it are geared to get your money eventually, I was hooked on mafia wars and a few other games, I no longer play any of them and I seldom log into facebook anymore. Facebook is really starting to make me sick, and who the heck do they think they are with there privacy crap, If was anybody with something to loose from anybody knowing my business I would stay as far away from facebook as humanly possible. I have deleted my account there before only to return a couple months later and find that nothing had been deleted at all, what kind of crap is that.

Yeah I don't like the fact that your account only gets "put on hold" for you instead of deleted like you asked for. That is a bunch of crap. Their privacy is a joke, how many times has it been changed since they opened their doors...way to many. I still play games and am still on it when I am bored with nothing to do or something like that but I don't get into things the way I used to when it was first around.

Yeah, FB's gotten pretty creepy with all the popularity especially, imo, in the past year with all the big business really pushing people to "find them on facebook", bla bla bla. But they do it with good reason as in 2010, Facebook.com became the most visited site on earth, outdoing Google.com. It beat Google a few months out of 2009, but this year surpassed it.

So, wherever there's that many people, there's going to be businesses wanting to market to them.  And the main reason I think businesses are trying to market so much through Facebook is because it's a community, not just a search engine.  People go there to have fun - they check up on people, gossip, play games, flirt, etc. as opposed to a search engine where people are more focused, trying to find what they're already after. Businesses can work themselves into people's cultures and inner circles and more.

I don't see anything special about it....the only thing I really see is that people are curious...they want to know what everyone is up to. Where is a better place to do that then where everyone is. Everyone likes to gossip and know what their neighbor is up to. We're naturally curious. toss in a couple games and you are going to have a place that you can market to everyone. It is invasive, maybe that's why I don't like it. It spread like wild fire. You can't find anyone that is not on it...unless they live under a bridge, lol.

lol, yeah I don't like it because so many businesses are pushing it. It's getting real old real quick. And it can get you in trouble lol.

I think a good site to start up if it hasn't been already would be facebook-anonymous.com lol. You would have a good site there let me tell you. Then you could market that on facebook in one of those stupid ads they have on the side of all their pages, lmao.

One reason I don't use the facebook app: the MSN app also does that work.
