Are we running out, yes this is confirmed. Are we working on a solution, not as fast as we should be. Will the internet crash, no but there will be some huge problems. There are 5 places that give out IP addresses to ISP's These are called RIR (Regional Internet Registries) These 5 places are:
Afrinic
Apnic
Arin
Lacnic
Ripe NCC
There is only about 500 000 000 IP addresses left. These get used up faster in some parts of the world then others. IPv6 is not out yet and something even worse is it's not compatible with IPv4. Tuesday, February 15 marks world IPv6 day around the world. Different parties around the world will be testing this out to see how it goes. Google comes to mind to start off with. Consumers like you and me won't get to try this out at all seeing as our ISP's don't support it and neither does the hardware we use right now. (Routers) Are we in trouble, have we waited to long to get this new protocol in place.
