Restore XP to "Factory Settings" without disks ?
« on: July 20, 2010, 06:56:24 PM »
Hey guys,

So it's time to part ways with my trusty old laptop but before selling it I of course want to get rid of all the data on there and restore it to a "factory" or "basic" setting.  If there a way to do this without the XP cd?  I bought the computer running on a bootlegged copy of XP SP2 and it is not running SP3.  I have the old cd, but says it won't install because my version of Windows is newer than what's on the cd.  It also says I can restart and boot from the CD, but I'm not sure how to do that.  Of course, I'd rather not use the CD at all but I'm guessing that's not possible.  Figured you guys would know though,  thanks!

Try Dereks Boot "n" Nuke. It's open source and will wipe the drive real clean.

You can try dial-a-fix.  It has a windows update fix option.

I use it to fix registry permission issues.

If you have the old disk for xp, then use it. here is how u use it.
1. turn off ur computer
2. turn it on and go to system menu
3. where it says boot menu, click on it and change it to boot from disc or something like that.
4. then just follow the steps.
5. after it won't have the words that say your version is too new and stuff like that.

I hoped I helped. Please visit http://www.theallinoneforum.net.tc and please register on it! Thanks!
