Shamus, the system profiler does not show the existence of the dvd drive.

He says he did so I am thinking the firmware update was corrupted maybe. Either that or the drive could be bad I guess.

@ William: Is it making any really weird noises. ???

Ya theres not alot on this on how to fix it...Apple knows about i guess though. if it was corrupt it shouldn't of finished upgrading and should try to reinstall.

Can't re-install cause it says it is already installed. I don't know alot about mac books but if it could be uninstalled then we could get somewhere. Because it's a firmware update I don't think that can happen.

could be from what i read you had to check to make sure you had the right model of the drive

If the wrong update was installed or it was not in the right order then the drive would be pretty much junk then...or could you update the motherboard bios maybe and get it back maybe...seeing as it's a macbook. (laptop) ???

Not sure you can just update the mb but i think thats what those EFI updates were.

might have to open it up get the model number of the drive and go from there.

and you had these installed first iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.4
Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.2
MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.4
MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.8?


Shamus, I downloaded MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.4. But when I tried to run it, it says my laptop do not need it.
