Anyone here that has ever used Google's street view feature knows how cool it is. I use it all the time. As a matter of fact the car that takes all the pictures drove right past my house. So now I can almost see my house. What I didn't know was a long with the pictures they were taking, they were also pulling publicly broadcast SSID and MAC information from Wi-Fi hotspots. Meaning they were checkin out what internet activity and sites every one was visiting. Alan Eustace, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Research had this to say:
"It's now clear that we have been mistakenly collecting samples of payload data from open (i.e. non-password-protected) WiFi networks, even though we never used that data in any Google products,"
