God Mode
« on: May 14, 2010, 04:40:13 AM »
I take it most win 7 users will have heard of God Mode,  just in case you haven't here is how

To use it:

  • Create a new folder.
  • Rename the folder to  GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}The folder icon will change — double click it to show the GodMode window:
GodMode window

Technically not really a God Mode more a way of finding configaration settings without hunting around.

The window shows nearly 50 sections with quick links to configuration  options.

Warning

The trick appears to work on both 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Vista 32-bit and Windows Server  2008 32-bit should also work. However, it is known to crash 64-bit  versions of Vista — and you may need to boot in safe mode or to the  command line to delete the folder.

Thanks for the tip. I might have to check it out later. I am on W7 64bit so maybe you could put down more instructions on how to find the folder through the command line for some of our users. ???

Been having a chat with a mate of mine who used Vista, seeing as I haven't  he certainly recommends NOT to TRY this on a Vista 64 bit machine, it will put Explorer into a loop and could cause other problems, that he wasn't about to try just to satisfy me (lolol)

It has also been called: Master Control Panel  on Vista

If anyone has tried it on Vista 64,  you will have a job deleting the folder through normal means.  but try this.

if you have WinRar, you can try something different.
  1. Ctrl+ Alt+Del
  2. File - > Execute new task
  3. Type winrar.exe
  3. Navigate in Winrar like you were navigating explorer, until you find the problematic GodMode post.
  4. Delete it through Winrar.

If you don't have winrar

1) You can go to another computer and browse to the desktop on your computer (computernameusersUSERNAMEdesktop) and delete the GodMode folder.

  2) If you have trouble with this (or don’t have another computer)  then you can reboot into safe mode command prompt.  Then you can change  directories to the desktop (cd c:\users\USERNAME\desktop).  Then run  the following command: rd /s “GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}”   Click Y, when asked.

Should be able to rename or delete after reboot.

Apparently there more than one of these shortcuts, they are used by the developers when they are compliing or doing what they do

That's great Gordo. Glad to have instructions on it. I might look for more on this before I try it on my 64bit W7 machine though.
