Sluggish Win 7

I just installed Win 7 x64 for someone and couldn't for the life of me figure out why it was being sluggish. I did get as far as narrowing it down to the audio in some way as everytime a sound would play it would stutter. So I went on a search. I figured out that if you do have this problem with audio slowing you down on Win 7 this is what you can do.

Go into the device manager to "System Devices" and find "High Definition Audio Controller" and disable it. Instantly your speed for your PC will shoot up and it will start to behave like normal. I am assuming that this has something to do with having onboard audio and an add in card in at the same time but am not sure. I will post more info when I have it.

Why not disable the on board if they have a PCI sound card?

I can do that for sure. I just like to have everything I can running on a computer before I start shutting things down. :)

Have a similar problem with mine,  have ordered a little usb sound card to see if I can disable the onboard sound due to distorion of sound.  When I did disable just when playing around I did find the speed of doing things went up quite a bit.

I am thinking it is a bug in the software that should be fixed soon.

As I said I had a very distorted sound and over all sluggish feel to the system,  I did a few things for purely testing, trial and error.  I uninstalled the Windows Media Centre, and use Winamp .. didn't improve anything really.  I disabled the onborad wireless adapter and plugged a usb stick one instead.   The sound distortion went away completly and things appear to be a lot quicker all round. 

I don't know whether to go back to WMC, or stay as I am, but my main problem was the distorted and slow sound when playing mp3 via network, which must have something to do with the onboard sound and wireless adapter..both Realtek.  I haven't a clue really what the problem was, but it is 100% better. Plus win7 has a much better feel to it; it doesn't feel like I am confined to a slow moving cardbopard box.  Constantly tryin to get out of

Onboard sound always causes a lot of problems. AFAIK

No it created it really. the hd audio controllers slow the system. Not sure why yet but I will figure it soon enough. I am not running x64 at the moment so I can't really do testing anymore.
