I removed a virus or 23 from my moms computer the other day. Now for some strange reason I get an error message on everything I click. When I say everything I mean all windows native programs and all third party programs:

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations control panel.

I get that popup even when I click on IE. In order to run anything I have to right click and hit Run as administrator. The operating system is Vista home basic. Anyone got any ideas.???

I think something might be left over run Malwarebytes update the database and run a full system scan.

Sounds like you have a similiar problem to what is discussed and fixed in this article. It is copyright, so I'm not going to post it here, but I am including the link to it for you to check out. Hope this fixes the issue.

Malwarebytes is installed but if you try to access it you get a script error message.

I tried all suggestions from this thread and the one linked here. Nesa I did try malwarebytes once more as well. Nothing seemed to work. However when I tried:

sfc /scannow

at the command prompt it did find corrupted files but could not fix them. I will have to delve into this a bit deeper and find a fix for this.

This is solved now. Everything I did would not get the permissions back for the programs in Vista. I redid the computer with an updated copy of Vista. I will mark this solved now. This just goes to show you sometimes even when you get rid of a virus the damage it causes could still there.

I would have much rather figure it out instead of re-installing but sometimes there is just to much damage.

Totally agree. Been there, done that it's always the last resort but as you say sometimes just necessary.  The dog goes and hides when I have to reinstall cos I'm not a happy bunny  ::)
