There should be a pin size hole in the front panel of the cdrom unit. Get a safety pin and straighten it. Stick it in the hole nice and slow and you should feel it press up against something. If you push a bit harder the front door of the cdrom should open.

It is probably off it's track. If you open it the way I say you should be able to pull it out gently and that should put it back on track.

Not wanting to tread on anyones toes...  is it a tower case, which normally open with a couple of screws or thumb screws on the back,  normally this the same for both sides.  I would whip the sides off disconnect the drive from power and ide.  Then slide it out and then try using the paper clip and small hole.  If no joy I have taken the drive case off carefully and accessed that.

But  More than likely I (personally) would replace it as they are quite reasobnably priced.

If a laptop thats another story.. I won't try and work this one out as never done it.   Hope I haven't made anyone toes sore by stepping in.

I had a similar problem with an ancient  tower years ago, the right side was integral to the rest of the case so I carefully measured where the cdrom holding screws should be, marked the places and also carefully drilled two holes in the side case big enough to insert a screwdriver...a trifle brutal but job done....

 :P

You could also use a flat blade screw driver and insert it between the side panel and the face plate of the computer and give it a gentle tap.

they really jammed it shut didn't they,  I would hope that bigguys idea will work, take it you can get one side off, can you much around the edge of the mobo, to try and gently tap ?

That does take care.
