LHC to shut down

Well, how long has it been up and running now, not very long. Seems the Large Hadron Collider will have to close for at least a year in 2011 due to design issues. This means the LHC will not reach it's full potential for another 2 years.

Later this month the big machine will make world records for collision energies at 7 trillion electron volts. Before this happens joints between the magnets on the HC must be strengthened.
