remove a folder & registry data
« on: February 11, 2010, 04:27:24 AM »
I made one big mistake and installed avast 5.0 without uninstall avast 4.8. here is the problem the avast 4 folder cannot be deleted and the registry cannot be deleted and avast 5.0 cannot start services.

i've tried to reinstall avast 4 / 5 but i keep getting error about needing to restart. i restart and nothing happens. how to shred the folder and registry without os reinstall?

i've decided to install avg 9 for now / forever. but i need the folder and registry / services gone.
thx..

EDIT: am using win xp sp2

See if this works for unlocking and deleting the files/folders.

Have you tried regseeker to remove the registry entries.  Or you could try:

You can download our uninstall utility called AvClear or AvClear4 (it depends on the version of avast! installed on your computer) which will remove it. Get it here

avg has slowed down the laptop. i read somewhere that instead of default installation i should choose custom which is ok but out of the qn.

Why is it out of the question. ??? Change the path it installs to and see if that makes a difference.

I thought i would not need to reinstall avg but i after i updated my firewall to the lastest comodo firewall and i think active+. i failed to get online. i uninstalled it. but failed and noticed that now the windows firewall service was gone. i tried everything but i resorted to 2 wk old system restore.

i first got rid of avast via safe mode. i've now installed the avg without the email scanner. it seems okay. i've also have a copy cfp that i was using just incase it has problems.

Putting your computer in hibernation will not make it restore. As far as I know there is no way to force them from within windows. There might be a program to do this somewhere.
